About two weekends ago now (I am trying to catch myself up here!), Sara and I took a day trip into Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It's about an hour away from here by bus. Our first stop was Cardiff castle. This castle was built between 55 and 400 AD by the Romans as a fort and trading space. Since it was built by Romans, the castle is more square instead of the more common circular shape. Later, the Normans controlled the castle and established the stone keep, which we were able to climb. The castle turned over hands a couple of more times and ended with John Patrick Crichton-Stuart the 3rd Marquess of Bute in Victorian times who transformed the castle interior into a "Gothic fairytale fantasy." It was fun to see, because we learned about this castle in our Welsh history class, which we are enrolled in here.
Next we took a water taxi around Cardiff Bay, saw Millennium Stadium (where the Welsh National Rugby team plays), and had some delicious fish and chips! Note to self: do not have "mushy peas" every again!....but, worth a try! What a fun day!
